MicroRNAs are short noncoding, endogenous RNA species that posttranscriptionally inhibit
gene expression by targeting the untranslated region (UTR) of mRNAs. Recently, it was
shown that miR-29 inhibits expression of extracellular matrix proteins such as collagens,
