Insulin resistance plays a major role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, yet despite
much research the underlying mechanism responsible for it is poorly understood. In this
review, some recent advances in the understanding of insulin resistance in humans that
have been made by using magnetic resonance spectroscopy are discussed.
